Detoxification from Alcohol and Drugs

Residential Detoxification

Detoxification is the first step in the process of withdrawal from alcohol or drugs and we take great care of our patients during this stage of treatment. Our doctors and nurses are trained and experienced in safely managing the symptoms of withdrawal and ensuring your optimal comfort.

Our medical team puts your safety above all else

These early stages of treatment are some of the most challenging and crucial on the path to recovery, and every effort is made to strongly support you at this point.

Assessing your detoxification needs

On arrival at Castle Craig, you will be greeted by members of our nursing team. The residential medical officer then carries out a full medical assessment and, along with the nurses and consultant psychiatrist, your individual detoxification requirements are assessed and your personalised care plan developed.

Your family members and significant others are encouraged to participate in the treatment programme, starting at the pre-admission stage if possible.

Your Safety First

A member of our medical team, under the supervision of the Medical Director, is present 24/7 to monitor and ensure safety and comfort during this period of treatment. We closely monitor the doses of any medication prescribed for you and reduce these over time until you are fully detoxed.

Alcohol and drug detox can carry risks if not properly managed; Castle Craig and Smarmore have medical staff on duty 24/7 to tend to our patients' needs. We also have over 30 years experience in ensuring a safe detox for all patients.
