Every patient receives a detailed medical assessment from our consultant psychiatrist which is used to form their personalised treatment plan. Our medical and clinical team will continue to monitor the physical and mental health of our patients throughout their stay at Castle Craig or Smarmore.

We meet the American Society of Addiction Medicine's highest level of care: ‘medically managed inpatient detoxification and inpatient treatment’.

Although the majority of a patient's treatment experience is based around psychotherapy and group therapy, the input of our consultant-led medical team is vital to our model of treatment. The medical team frequently hold group meetings to discuss individual cases, so that our patients get more than one medical opinion.

Highest Level of Care

The treatment team at Castle Craig Hospital and Smarmore Castle consists of consultant psychiatrists and a team of doctors and nurses who work under the leadership of a Medical Director. We refer to this as structure as 'medically managed'. Our medically managed treatment model is distinct from a service that is simply under medical supervision or even medical direction. We meet the American Society of Addiction Medicine's highest level of care: ‘medically managed inpatient detoxification and inpatient treatment’.

We ensure that that there is at least one consultant psychiatrist attending at the hospital and leading the multidisciplinary team on every day of the week. We also have a full time resident medical officer (GP), and a full-time nursing staff.
